The Laboratory for Animal Resources was established in March 2017 to study intractable diseases, including cancer and degenerative brain diseases in relation to aging. The purpose of this facility is to supply nicely-qualified laboratory animals under suitable genetic, environmental and pathological controls where reliability and reproducibility of each experimental data are obtained. Recently, we have been dealing with a large number of genetically engineered animals such as transgenic or gene-targeted mice.
In addition, a quarantine room has been set up inside the Seiryo Total Research Project building and we are continuously improving our sanitation systems to prevent any accidental contamination of pathogens. We also carry out periodic microbiological monitoring tests at least four times a year, and we are moving to a more sophisticated quarantine system in our facility. Needless to say, our facility only accepts SPF (Specific Pathogen Free) animals and we have been making efforts to carry out ethical animal experimentation with the 3 R’s in mind (Replacement, Reduction and Refinement).
